8 Indications You Need To Get A Stairlift Service

Strange Sounds or Movements

Those who ride the stairlift on a daily basis develop accustomed to the stairlift\’s typical noises and feel. Any unexpected movements or strange sounds should be investigated further.

Broken Parts

A stairlift may continue to operate with broken parts in some instances. This is not only hazardous, but it can also cause other parts to break. For example, the seat spring could be damaged, preventing the stairlift from moving. While certain covers should move in order to detect an object, they should never have fasteners that are missing, rattle about, be damaged, or loose.

Scraping Noises

Hearing scraping noises coming from your stairlift is never good, and you should schedule servicing as soon as possible to avoid further damage to the stairlift. Depending on your stairlift type, the scraping noises can be caused by a variety of factors, the most frequent of which are internal parts that are out of alignment or worn rollers.

Beeping or Chirping

This helpful yet irritating sound is your stairlift informing you that the batteries are not charging. The most likely reason is a power outage or a malfunctioning power source. Checking the outlet for electricity may prevent you from having to call a service technician. Call for servicing if the stairlift continues to beep.

Stops When Ascending

Your stairlift appears to be good moving down the stairs but is slowing or stopping when ascending the stairs. This indicates that the internal stairlift batteries must be changed soon. This should only be performed by a qualified technician who can also inspect the power supply, charging circuit, and related safety circuits.

Exposed Wiring

Exposed wire will ultimately fail, preventing the stairlift from moving. In certain situations, this wire might short out against metal, causing even more issues and greater maintenance expenses. Exposed wire can also be dangerous.

Error Codes

While sitting or running, the diagnostic panel displays strange error codes. This is commonly seen when a lift controller or circuit board begins to fail.

Unusual Operation

If your stairlift hesitates, shutters, or jumps on the track, the most likely cause is a faulty gearbox. On the other hand, you may find that your stairlift usually works well but stops unexpectedly at times. This might be due to anything from a safety adjustment to an electrical short.
