Understanding Stairlift Features

Stairlifts are strong equipment which can become a risk to the user and other people around it if it is not properly used. Despite doing everything well, there is still the risk of accidents caused by humans, pets, or other things which the user cannot control. To minimize the risk posed to the users and others, the designers of stairlifts have created some basic safety features. Read on to learn more about the stairlift features!

Seat Belt

You will find that the seat belt is one of the most essential and basic safety feature that is a part of the stairlift. If the user falls out of the seat while traveling on the stairlift, they might suffer from serious injuries and severe consequences from the fall. Therefore, the seat belt is crucial in preventing such accidents from happening.

Seat Lock

Most stairlifts come with a swivel seat found on one end of the travel. Many of them swivel at both ends. Using a stairlift without the seat being locked in place will pose a hazard to the user when going up the stairs and while getting on and off the seat of the stairlift. Therefore, the seat lock is crucial in preventing such hazards from happening.

Seat Lock Switch

Many stairlift models come with a seat lock switch. This prevents the stairlift from operating unless the seat is already fixed in the proper position.

Arm Position Switch

Similar to the seat lock switch, stairlifts come with switches that stop the stairlift chair from moving unless the arms are placed in the right position.

Foot Rest Bumper Switch

The footrests come with micro switches that are found on each side. This is so that the stairlift will come to a stop if they contact anything on the stairway. If the bumper hits anything during the process of traveling, the chair will stop moving until the thing has been removed from the stairway. If the user is alone and is unable to remove the obstruction, the lift will operate in the other direction so they will not be stuck in the middle of the stairway.

Momentary Activation Switch

The switch that is used to activate the stairlift is known as a momentary switch. This switch is only activated when you place pressure on it and it will stop the stairlift when you release the pressure. If the user releases pressure from the switch at any moment for whatever reason, the stairlift will automatically stop.
