Will A Stairlift Affect My Household Members Who Are Not Using It?

Should someone in your home be having difficulty maneuvering stairs, one of the easiest and safest ways to assist them is through the installation and use of a modern stair lift. Today’s models are adaptable to many staircases, even outdoor steps and curved stairways.

Once the system is installed, the person in question can move throughout the home without difficulty or pain, and in the safest method possible. But what about others living in the home or visitors? Will there be any safety issues or problems where they are concerned?

The following information will be informative as to how a stair lift affects a household.

Can Others Still Use the Stairs?

Without a doubt, the answer here is, “Yes!” One of the best features about today’s stair lifts is that they are safe and comfortable, not only for those who use them, but for others who use the stairways upon which they are installed. Because the seat folds up – and should always be folded up when not in use – it is out of the way for others wishing to use the stairs.

Before you know it, members of your household will get used to the system being in place and seldom give it a second thought. If you are concerned about how a stair lift will look in your home, visit a show room to view, for yourself, how the systems look in various situations.

Pets and Stair Lifts

Okay, others in your home will be safe. But what about your pets? Today\’s stair lifts are designed to be unable to crush or trap things, including pets and kids. Just as with children (see below), pets should generally steer clear of stair lifts and not ride on them. The system may scare a pet at first, but as with others in the home, they will likely get used to it as time goes by.

Children And Stair Lifts

Though the stair lift in your home may be installed for use by a child who has suffered an injury, has a specific medical condition, etc., it is not a toy or a plaything. Any time a child uses a stair lift, they should be supervised by a responsible adult. It may look like fun to a child, going up and down those stairs on a motorized seat, but they should be dissuaded from using it if it has not been installed for them.

The use of a baby gate to discourage children from playing on a stair lift may not be feasible due to the design of the system. Other solutions should be explored.

Rest assured, however, the today’s stair lift systems have been designed with the safety of every household member in mind!
