What you need to know when removing unwanted stairlifts

If you have a stairlift at home that is not needed anymore, you may be wondering what to do with it. Maybe you will be moving shortly, or you have regained full mobility following your injury or surgery and no longer need it. You have several options when it comes to removing unwanted stairlifts, including doing so yourself, engaging the assistance of a professional, donating it or selling it to a company for it to be resold. In this article, we share with you your options when it comes to removing unwanted stairlifts.

Getting in A Professional

The fastest and easiest of getting rid of an unwanted stairlift is to call in a professional. They will be able to send out a skilled technician in no time, who can dismantle and remove a stairlift that is no longer needed. If you do not know how to, attempting to remove a stairlift by yourself can end up causing damage to the fixtures and fittings, resulting in a larger out of pocket cost.

Scraping It

Are you thinking of scraping the stairlift? If so, you should be aware that there is very little value for the scraped metal. If you are okay to go ahead with it, always ensure that you dispose off the material in a legal way. Fly tipping is illegal and you do not want to get in trouble for irresponsibly dumping the scraps of your unwanted stairlift.

Recycling It

Another option is to recycle your stairlift and the various materials that went into making it. If you go for this option, you can expect to be charged a small fee for disposal that goes towards fees incurred at the recycling plant.

Donating or Reselling It

If your stairlift is still in good condition, you may be thinking of donating or reselling it at a discounted price to someone who needs it. However, not every stairlift company will buy back your unwanted stairlift as these are often devices customized to the exact specifications of your staircase and the user’s needs. Hence, reselling one can be difficult. Some companies may choose to donate the profits from the sales of secondhand stairlifts to a good cause.
